WINCHESTER – The Winchester Hawks headed into their holiday break with a couple of victories to close out the first half of the season.

On Fri., Dec. 22, the Hawks sent the fans home happy as they defeated the Arnprior Packers 4-2 at the Joel Steele Community Centre.

Hunter Randell opened the scoring in the second period on the power play as he beat Packers goalie Mitchell Rukavina. Hawks goalie Darien Johnson and Kyle Kuehni would pick up the assists on the Randell goal.

In the middle of the second, Joey Driscoll (Nathan Merritt, Jeremy Fidaoui) would extend the home team’s lead by a couple of goals.

The Packers would respond two minutes later when Andrew McAtamney (Matt Turnbull) cut the Hawks’ lead in half as the game headed to third period.

In the opening minute of the third, Kuehni tallied his second point of the game as he sent a shot past Rukavina.

Winchester struck on the power play for the second time when Fidaoui put the Hawks up by three. Dylan Lavallee and Driscoll were credited with the assists.

Hawks beat Canadians

The Winchester Hawks (8-23-1) rolled into Gloucester and upset the Ottawa Canadians (23-8-1) by a score of 3-1 on Tues., Dec. 19.

Prior to the game, standings in the league showed the second place Canadians 33 points above the last place Hawks.

Off of a Mitchell Robertson assist, Anthony Urbisci opened the scoring for the visiting Hawks two minutes into the game.

Winchester carried the lead into the middle frame until the Canadians struck on the powerplay with less than five minutes remaining in the period. Mathieu Plante (Justin Turner, Nicolas Seguin) fired the puck past Hawks’ goalie Darien Johnson to even the game heading into the third period.

The Hawks broke the tie 4:55 in when Joel Driscoll (Jordan Chagnon, Dakota Seaman) beat Canadians’ goalie Bennett Oxborough.

The Canadians pulled Oxborough in favour of an extra attacker but Hunter Randell (Kyle Kuehni) sealed the win with an empty-net goal.

The Hawks were scheduled to play the Arnprior Packers (14-18-1) at the Joel Steele Community Centre on Fri., Dec. 22 prior to the team’s Christmas break.

Winchester will be back in action on Jan. 7 in Arnprior. The Hawks play at home on Jan. 12 against the Richmond Royals.
